He inherited his love of the sea and foreign travel from an ancestral admiral, chiefly remembered for capturing Buenos Aires in error, and having to give it back; and for inventing the naval flag-signalling code which helped to win teh Battle of Trafalgar. Certainly Hugh Popham has his share of sea water in his veins. During the war he spent five years in teh Fleet Air Arm as a fighter puilot and served in every ocean except the Antarctic. B7001
